4.80 12

Groovy soundtrack for this 60's international intrique film starring a young Horst Bucholz. Georges Garvarentz wrote and directed the music, with the sort of flair that he brings to the best of projects like these. The stuff's not as funky as his 70's stuff, but it's got a lot of nice moments, with good spy and crime themes to them. Tracks include "Fight At The Turkish Bath", "Bulldozer Leads The Dance", "Surprise Depot", "Man With The Steel Hand", and "Chase On The Calatma Bridge". (Sealed 60s pressing! Shrinkwrap has a small hole.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Wrong Box
Mainstream, 1966. Sealed
One of the lesser-known John Barry scores of the 60s – penned for an equally lesser-known comedy that starred Michael Caine, Peter Sellers, Peter Cook, Tony Hancock, and Dudley Moore! The tunes have kind of a period feel with slight whimsical touches – not as mod and groovy as you ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chase
Columbia, Late 60s. Sealed
A lesser-known moment of genius from John Barry – quite different than his work for the James Bond films of the time! Barry's working here in a mix of more ambitious orchestral themes – dark, brooding, and moody – but also interspersed with some lighter jazzier numbers that are ... LP, Vinyl record album

Naked Ape
Playboy, 1973. Very Good+
Incredible! We've never seen this film – although it looks like it would be amazing. Produced by Playboy in 1973, the film's kind of a hippy-dippy sexual evolution picture, tracing the development of man as a "naked ape". You can tell this from the soundtrack, which features a ... One of the best later moments from soundtrack giant Alfred Newman – a stunning score for a star-studded disaster film at the start of the 70s! Newman's still got some of his older sense of orchestration here, but also gets a bit leaner for the modern age too – bringing in some groovier ... LP, Vinyl record album

Smash, 1966. Very Good+
Possibly the best instrumental album that James Brown cut for Smash! Unlike some of the other albums, this one features a set list that's mostly originals – and a number of tracks have a longer groove than usual, which lets James and the band stretch out instrumentally. Titles include " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Invictus, 1973. Very Good-
A bit confused at points, but one of the funkiest albums on Invictus! The 8th Day group was a loosely conceived batch of Detroit soul talents designed to cash in on a concept of the Holland-Dozier-Holland team – but fortunately, they also included some wonderful talents that could make some ...
