CD (Item 558535) Roulette (Japan), 1960 — Condition: New Copy
A drum-heavy spectacular – featuring 4 of the top hardbop drummers of the late 50s, all recorded live at Birdland, soloing back and forth in larger groups. Blakey's on all the cuts – playing with Philly Joe Jones on the tunes "Wee Dot", "Fours", and other solo-oriented tracks. Other numbers feature Blakey, Persip, and Elvin Jones – on the tracks "El Sino", which has nice alto work by Sonny Red, plus another set of solo-heavy tracks.
