Ultra Sheen
CD (Item 526759) Sonic Healing Ministries, 2010 — Condition: New Copy
Damn, we love David Boykin! His music's always been rewarding – but he's also grown tremendously over the years – really hitting new heights with a record like this, which seems to have all the best elements of previous years put together even better than before! Boykin's still very much in a spiritual jazz mode, but he's also kicked in some compelling rhythms too – these really fat basslines from Josh Abrams that are possibly some of his best on record, tightly snapping drums from Mike Reed, and vamping piano bits from Jim Baker – all players we already love, but tied together by Boykin in a really unique way. David vocalizes a bit – dropping some knowledge along with his own sax lines – and the lovely Nicole Mitchell really brings a lot to the record with some sublime work on flute and piccolo. This is definitely a project to take us back to the glory days of Great Black Music from the Chicago scene – and cuts include "Ultra Sheet", "Abstract Erotic", "Pyramids", and "Imbroglio" – plus instrumental versions of some tracks too! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
