CD (Item 41896) Stax, Early 70s — Condition: New Copy

Sublime soul by one of the 70s most overlooked artists! Rance Allen was a powerhouse – born out of the gospel scene, and picked up by Stax records during its hip post-Atlantic years. Rance recorded for the label's Truth subsidiary, where he crafted a unique blend of gospel and soul that was some of the most spiritual work to come out of Memphis in the 70s. The tracks on this set are pulled from Rance's first three albums for Stax, and they're a mix of secular themes and spiritual soulfulness that's done up in spare small combo arrangements that feature Rance at the keyboards – in a mode that's almost like a backwoods version of Donny Hathaway. Titles include "Let The Music Get Down In Your Soul", "If I Could Make The World Better", "Care", "Lonely Girl", "What Is This?", "We're The Salt Of The Earth", "Happy Needs Help", and "See What You've Done Done".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
