CD (Item 535531) Epic/Soulmusic.com (UK), 1986 — Condition: New Copy

A great little album from James Mtume – a bit more complicated and righteous than some of his previous albums on Epic, and with a real mix of styles that works nicely together! The album starts off with "Theme For Theater Of The Mind", a sort of 80s take on the spiritual/political soul jazz sound of the 70s – and a cut that really sets the mood for the album. The record features 80s funk numbers like "I Don't Believe You Heard Me", which is a tribute to James Brown, "New Face Deli", and "POP Generation", which was a bit of a hit. It's also got some great smooth quiet storm numbers – like a remake of Bootsy's "I'd Rather Be With You", and the slinky late night number "Body & Soul (Take Me)". And the extended guitar-jamming "Deep Freeze", which features a "rap-a-song" part!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
