Dr Dee
LP (Item 612602) Parlophone, 2012 — Condition: New Copy
A fascinating solo album/opera soundtrack from Damon Albarn – creative stuff from an occasional pop front man who, fascinatingly, seems to get more and more creative and interesting with each passing year. We can't think of a more adventurous figure than Damon Albarn in his generation to maintain the kind of popularity and influence that he has. This record, which you might think was a straight forward solo album by the cover art, is part concept album about mathetician, philosopher, astronomer, Elisabeth I advisor and who-know-what-else John Dee – recorded with African musicians (including Tony Allen), a beautiful choir, and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra – though it's mostly quite subtle of elegantly folky. Somehow wildly ambitious and pastoral at the same time. Includes "The Golden Dawn", "Apple Carts", "O Spirit, Animate Us", "The Moon Exalted", "Saturn", "Coronation", "A Prayer", "Edward Kelley", "9 Point Star", "Temptation Comes In The Afternoon", "Tree Of Beauty", "The Dancing King". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
