Star Eyes – Live In Amsterdam 1958
CD (Item 611437) MCN (Netherlands), 1958 — Condition: New Copy
A wonderful collection of work by American players working overseas – key performances from a Dutch concert in 1958! The setting is wonderful – with two different rhythm sections in place, each working on their own, then bringing in work from Lee Konitz and Zoot Sims! The set begins with a few tracks played by Phineas Newborn on piano with Oscar Pettiford on bass and Kenny Clarke on drums – then Lee Konitz comes in with his wonderfully crisp 50s alto sound, but with a slightly more open, relaxed approach with Newborn backing him up. Lee steps out, then Zoot Sims tenor comes in for two tracks – before the rhythm section then switches to Red Garland, Pettiford, and Clarke. Zoot and Lee join together on a long jam session number – then a trio with Newborn rounds things out. The music is great – not just from a playing standpoint, but from a recording one as well – since the show was recorded by the Dutch Jazz Archives, and has way better sound than you might expect. Titles include "Daahoud", "Walkin", "Star Eyes", "Sunday", "Willow Weep For Me", "Lover Man", "Bohemia After Dark", and "Stardust". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
