Forget this guy's name – which makes you think he's a blues singer – because the album's one of the best new male soul records we've heard in years! Big Brooklyn Red has a sweetly grooving style that's really unique for a male singer – never overdone, never caught up in the realm of cliches – instead nicely stripped down and bubbling, in a style that's almost a 21st century update of the richness of 70s work by Al Green or Marvin Gaye. The arrangements on the set are wonderful too – beat-heavy enough to appeal to a contemporary audience, but filled with plenty of warm and jazzy touches on the instrumentation – pushing the work to the sky with a righteous style that reminds us of Donnie Hathaway! Honestly, at first we almost passed this guy by because of his name but the record's really amazing, and one of our favorite soul records for a while! Titles include "Paradise", "The War Inside", "Sweeter Than Springtime", "Time", "Put Wings On Me", and "My Destiny". (Out of print.) © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.
