Bold work from tenorist Odean Pope – a player who first rose to fame with Max Roach in the 80s, and who went on to record some great material on his own! This set features Pope trio material from two different sessions – one in 1995, one in 2000, both in a similarly dynamic format that features Odean's tenor in the lead, with support from bass and drums – all in a freewheeling sort of mode, but one that's never too far out – always rhythmic and spiritually searching, with a Billy Harper-like sense of power and righteousness! Tyrone Brown handles bass on all tracks, and his sound is wonderful – very round and warm-toned, at a level that underscores the deeply soulful aspects of Pope's lines on tenor. Drums are by either Mickey Roker or Craig McLyer – and titles include "You Remind Me", "Knot It Off", "CIS", "Good Question", "Terrestrial", and "Convictions".
