One of the coolest compilations we've seen so far on Mississippi Records -- a set that almost pushes them into the territory covered by Honest Jons with some of their vintage EMI collections! The package documents a lost history of Greek music -- work recorded from the mid 20s through mid 40s -- in Greece, Germany, and the US -- most of it relatively traditional, but with some key modern elements too. All the material originally appeared on 78rpm singles, but the sound is surprisingly strong at some points -- and the collection comes in a handsome box, with a Folkways-type booklet that details the history of the music, and also provides lyrics as well. © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | ||||||
