A wonderful record by The 5th Dimension – hip, sophisticated, and one that shows that they had a depth that went beyond simple soul harmonies! The proof of this is the group's killer track "One Less Bell To Answer", one of the frankest songs about adult love and breakup to ever crack the charts in the 60s – but there's plenty of other gems, including "Puppet Man", "Feelin Alright", "A Love Like Ours", "Save The Country", "Dimension 5ive", and the extended medley of "The Declaration/Change Is Gonna Come/People Got To Be Free". Arrangements are by producer Bones Howe, with the team of Bob Alcivar and Bill Holman – both of whom helped to shape the group's sound nicely in the post-Jimmy Webb years.  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Buddah, 1976. Very Good
A wonderful debut from Aquarian Dream – a group who first appeared under the direction of Norman Connors – and who also have lots of the same blend of jazz, soul, and funk you'd find in Connors' own music of the time! Yet Aquarian Dream are very much their own bag, too – a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Blind Baby
Buddah, 1975. Very Good- Gatefold
A classic album by this righteous soul collective – and one that shows them taking a strong step away from their work at RCA with Harvey Fuqua. This one has the group (ever-enormous as always!) absorbing some of the other elements of modern soul that were floating around at the time – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Swing Your Daddy
Roxbury, 1975. Very Good
A classic around these parts – mostly for the jazzy swing-beat of the title cut, which is a favorite among Chicago steppers. "Swing Your Daddy" is laid out in a long two part version – but there's also a lot of other nice cuts on the album, with a sound that's more in the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Inside Of Me
RCA, 1981. Very Good+
A killer batch of clubby soul from Esther Williams with a great New York sound! Inside Of Me a perfect example of the kind of excellent material that verges on disco, but which still keeps things pretty darn soulful. Released in '81, it's steeped in the warm, timeless and beautifully well ... LP, Vinyl record album

There's A Riot Goin' On
Epic, 1971. Very Good- Gatefold
A wonderful album from Sly and crew – moving way past the straight funk approach of earlier records, into a complicated crossover soul style that's filled with warmth and righteousness. Despite the political tone implied by the "riot" in the title and the co-option of the American ... LP, Vinyl record album
