Jump For Joy 1959 to 1961 (Jump For Joy/Arne Domnerus Sextet)
CD (Item 375834) Dragon (Sweden), Late 50s/Early 60s — Condition: New Copy
Incredible work from Arne Domnerus – a Swedish player of the postwar scene who's best known for his work on clarinet, but who also really smokes here on alto sax too! The set features material from two different Domnerus albums of the late 50s/early 60s – working in surprisingly modern territory for the clarinet, using the instrument in ways that are almost like some of the Jimmy Giuffre's more complicated arrangements of the early 50s – then stepping over to some even more open, fluid sounds on recordings that bring in the alto sax as well – a real treat, especially given that players on the dates include Jan Allan or Bengt Arne Wallin on trumpet, Bjarne Nerem or Rolf Blomquist on tenor, Rune Falk on baritone, Rune Gustafsson on guitar, and Bengt Hallberg or Gunnar Svensson on piano. Arrangements are by Hallberg, Georg Riedel, Wallin, Svensson, and Gosta Theselius – and titles include "The Lament", "Rund Funk", "In The Fall", "Mox Nix", "Lester Left Town", "Blues For FFIB", "Studio A", "Do Me A Favor", and "Suburban Street". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
