CD (Item 619188) Kronos (Germany), Early 70s — Condition: New Copy

A surprisingly groovy batch of tracks from Piero Umiliani – from a surprisingly groovy set of records, too! The music here is pulled from three early 70s albums – Continente Nero, Polinesia, and Africa – all sort of travelogue projects that might come across as clunky in the hands of anyone else – but which are scored by Umiliani with a swinging, groovy style all the way through! The work's a bit like some of his more exotic soundtrack moments – bits of funk bubbling underneath some more organic instrumentation – often acoustic percussion mixed with electric basslines and keyboards in really cool ways – usually with that great sense of melody that makes Umiliani one of our favorite soundtrack artists of all time. The feel is a bit like some of the classic Mandingo albums from EMI Studio 2 – but more subtle, too – with more depth overall. Titles include "Riscossa", "Ultimo Stregone", "Oasi", "Canoe", "Africa To-Day", "Sortilege", "African Suspence", "Green Dawn", and "Nuovi Fermenti". (Limited edition of 500 copies.)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
