Sudanese vocal group material – a genre we've never really heard before, but which really comes across in this entry from the Popular African Music series! The vocals are mostly male, and sung in a way that's very warm – almost like some of the better-known South African modes of the 80s, but with a quality that's different, too – given the diverse cultural heritage of the Sudan, and the relatively lean instrumental backing on most numbers – a bit of percussion, some keyboards, and either bass or oud – all used softly underneath the lead vocal arrangements.
