Killer work by Astrud Gilberto – very different than her Verve sides of the 60s! The album was produced by Astrud, arranged by Deodato – and has that wonderful warm full jazz feel of her classic album on CTI, but also a bit more like some of the funky work of Jorge Ben at the time – choppy at the bottom, with a sound that's a bit samba, and a bit funky at times. Mike Longo and Deodato play keyboards on the session, giving it an electric groove that works perfectly with Astrud's soaring vocals – and the whole album really holds together wonderfully! There's a nice bit of funk on the cut "Take it Easy My Brother Charlie" – and other tracks include "Zigy Zigy Za", "Baiao", "Gingele", "Bridges", and "Where Have You Been?".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Shadow Of Your Smile
Verve, 1965. Near Mint-
One of Astrud Gilberto's greatest albums – and quite possibly our personal favorite! The record features beautifully understated arrangements by Joao Donato, Don Sebesky, and Claus Ogerman – and the instrumentation is a haunting mix of bossa rhythms with darker orchestrations that ... Yauarete
CBS, 1988. Near Mint-
A tightly produced effort from the late 80s – with a sound that's certainly more commercial than some of Milton's earlier albums, but which is still graced by some great vocals and occasional soulful moments. Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter make an appearance on the album, and tracks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Brazilian New Wave
Crestview, Mid 60s. Very Good
A weird little set of bossa grooves – featuring singer Claudio Meranda, working here with an unnamed group on an obscure session for the dodgy Crestview label. The session was produced by Jack Millman, who we know as a west coast jazz talent – and we're not sure if he's leading the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lively and hard-driving samba from Jair – filled with lots of percussion, and recorded with a spirited groove throughout! Don't let the title mislead you, because the album's not a bossa session – but if you like Jair's rootsier work, the album's a nice one. Titles in clude "Pra ... LP, Vinyl record album

Killer reissue that combines both of the albums that Airto recorded for Buddah in the early 70s! Fantastic – and a record that we passed up for years! This one looks like a knockoff from the cover, but it's a really great outing that features bossa nova numbers played by a studio combo known only as The Tides – and whose instrumentation features piano, percussion, bass, acoustic ... Humble People
Concord, 1985. Near Mint-
Almost a return to basics for Airto and Flora – singing here in more of a jazzy fusion style than on some of her late 70s R&B sessions. The Concord production almost gives the album the feel of a Tania Maria set for the label – using core jazzy backings, plus some expanded ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fantastic early work from Helen Merrill – with some of the best backings we've ever heard for her chilling vocals!
