Classic 80s funk from Xavier – a group led by bassist Ernest Smith, who'd already had plenty of practice working with Isaac Hayes, The Midnight Movers, and The Coasters during their funky late 60s years! The groove here is similar to some of the other tight funk groups on Liberty at the time – especially Dayton – but Xavier's groove is a bit leaner, too – very nicely turned towards a modern dancefloor with its emphasis on bass upfront in the mix, in a mode that's often nicely placed between boogie and rollerskating jams! Ayanna Little sings lead vocals with Xavier – and the set also features some wicked keyboard work from Rahni Harris – on tracks that include "What Goes Around", "Truly Devoted", "Work That Sucker To Death", and "Love Is On The One". (Cover has light wear, a peeled mark from sticker removal, and a name in pen on the front and back.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Super Fly TNT
Buddah, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold
Some nice heavy Afro-funk grooves, courtesy of Osibisa, for this follow-up score to the original Super Fly! Buddah, 1976. Very Good
A wonderful debut from Aquarian Dream – a group who first appeared under the direction of Norman Connors – and who also have lots of the same blend of jazz, soul, and funk you'd find in Connors' own music of the time! Yet Aquarian Dream are very much their own bag, too – a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ship Ahoy
Philadelphia International, 1973. Very Good Gatefold
A pivotal album from The O'Jays – and an undeniable Philly classic! The record was the third the group cut for the Philadelphia International label – but it was really the first one that pushed their strong righteous soul agenda, sort of a mix of message-oriented lyrics and heavy soul ... Revolucion
AVI, 1980. Sealed
Latin inflected club grooves by the legendary El Coco! The band was one of the most successful projects of the Rinder/Lewis production team – and although this album's not their best, it's still very much in their classic mode. Most tracks are nice and long, with a disco groove, and titles ... LP, Vinyl record album

CTI, 1974. Very Good- Gatefold
A landmark album – not only for Bob James, but for CTI and the Fender Rhodes as well! This is the album where all the magic starts – the first of many extremely successful albums that Bob recorded during the 70s under his own name, and almost the birthplace of the modern hip hop ... Blue Note, 1971. Near Mint-
The last Three Sounds album for Blue Note – and the funkiest too – thanks to lots more electrification than usual, and some killer arrangements from the mighty Monk Higgins!
