Serie 2 Por 1 (Alegria Alegria/Alegria Alegria Vol 2)
CD (Item 538390) EMI/Odeon (Brazil), 1967/1968 — Condition: New Copy
Two genre-defining early albums from Wilson Simonal – both brilliant all the way through! Alegria Alegria is groundbreaking early work from Wilson – a terrific blend of soul, samba, and groovy orchestrations – the kind of record that had a huge influence on the Brazilian sound of the late 60s! The orchestrations are by Cesar Mariano, and have a joyous bounce all the way through – grooving in a really "live" sort of setting, one that brings out the best in Simonal's wonderful voice! The whole thing's a beautiful Brazilian groove party – and titles include "Pra Que?", "Os Escravos De Jo", "Nem Vem Que Nao Tem", "Para Pedro", and "Discussao". Alegria Alegria Vol 2 is an early dose of samba soul from the great Wilson Simonal – a set that's almost as important to his career as late 60s work for Jorge Ben! Like Ben, Simonal's music has a great blend of the rootsy and the groovy – raspy vocals that are overflowing with soul, supported by lively orchestrations from Cesar Camargo Mariano – leaping along with lots of jazzy touches, and a fair bit of organ and piano that further enhance the grooves of the tracks! The whole thing's wonderful – almost like a Brazilian version of late 60s Capitol Records soul – and titles include Simonal's classic version of "Sa Marina", his great take on "Zazueira" – and the cuts "Paraiba", "Gosto Tanto De Voce", "Nao Tenho Lagrimas", "Vamos S'Imbora", and "Manias". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
