Lyte's first LP, and a hip hop classic that needs no introduction from us. Lyte raised the bar for female rappers on this late 80s album with her mic skills and lyrical finesse that took female MC's into a whole new realm, beyond "Roxanne" answer tracks. She takes on Roxanne Shante on "10% Dis", a classic battle track that sparked a great answer cycle in its own right. And the production, mostly by Audio Two is pure minimalist hip hop beatmaking, while the King Of Chill comes correct with the dopest side stick in the history of programmed beats on "Paper Thin", and Prince Paul goes nuts with the horn stabs on one of his earlier beats, "MC Lyte Likes Swingin'". 10 tracks in all, this LP also includes "I Cram To Understand You", "Kickin 4 Brooklyn", "Lyte As A Rock", "Lyte Thee MC", "I Am Woman", "Lyte Vs. Vanna Whyte" and "I Am Woman".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

First Priority, 1988. Near Mint-
Nice compilation including some non-LP cuts from the First Priority label, in its prime. All the tracks here are cut from the same, nice middle school hip hop cloth, with not much more than the MC's rhyming over spare beats in the Audio Two style. 11 tracks in all including MC Lyte & Positive ... Kingpin
Atlantic, 1989. Very Good
A Juice Crew classic, in spite of some less than stellar moments like "Turn This House Into A Home", though Craig G's so fierce on the mic on cuts like "Shootin' The Gift", that we can forgive him for the few tracks on this LP that don't quite live up to that standard. Sugar Hill, 1984. Very Good-
Aaahh, back in the day. . .well not quite as far back as we might like, as the Treacherous Three's Enjoy material really takes us back – but this Sugarhill LP, cut just after that, has that great mid 80s block party vibe. The Sugarhill house band reworks some of the more popular R&B hits ... LP, Vinyl record album

It Takes Two
Profile, 1988. Near Mint-
This might not be the most important or vital album in the history of hip hop – but it's got some indistibutable, unstoppable party jams all the same! "It Takes Two" will always be guaranteed to rock any party – and if Rob Base on the mic isn't anything to write home about, ... LP, Vinyl record album

On-U Sound (UK), 1992. Very Good
An early Adrian Sherwood produced dub excursion, featuring the sort of rotating lineup that was the hallmark of this period of the Dub Syndicate, before it became a vehicle for Style Scott's rhythm excursions.
