Changing Times
LP (Item 13228) Motown, 1970 — Condition: Used
A very hip album from the Four Tops – cut with kind of a political/social edge, and a heavy vibe that was similar to what the Temptations had been using on some of their important albums for Motown at the end of the 60s. In fact, this one's got so much of that righteous Temps vibe that we wonder if the big boys at Motown didn't say to the Four Tops, "Hey, why don't you do an album like them?" Arrangements are by David Van DePitte and Jimmy Roach – and the record begins with a melange of sound effects and odd sounds, before sliding into the socially-conscious "In These Changing Times". However, the group still retains their wonderfully sweet vocal edge, and even though the political agenda's up front on the album, they still come through strongest on the sweeter and more love-oriented songs. Titles include "Right Before My Eyes", "Something's Tearing At The Edges Of Time", "Sing A Song Of Yesterday", and a medley of "Long & Winding Road" and "In These Changing Times".
