A very hip album from the Four Tops – cut with kind of a political/social edge, and a heavy vibe that was similar to what the Temptations had been using on some of their important albums for Motown at the end of the 60s. In fact, this one's got so much of that righteous Temps vibe that we wonder if the big boys at Motown didn't say to the Four Tops, "Hey, why don't you do an album like them?" Arrangements are by David Van DePitte and Jimmy Roach – and the record begins with a melange of sound effects and odd sounds, before sliding into the socially-conscious "In These Changing Times". However, the group still retains their wonderfully sweet vocal edge, and even though the political agenda's up front on the album, they still come through strongest on the sweeter and more love-oriented songs. Titles include "Right Before My Eyes", "Something's Tearing At The Edges Of Time", "Sing A Song Of Yesterday", and a medley of "Long & Winding Road" and "In These Changing Times". ABC, 1976. Very Good
A lot greater than you'd expect – like most of The Four Tops' excellent work on ABC. The classic Motown sound is no longer, but in its place is the same sort of positive 70s soul grooving that Lamont Dozier picked up on the label – a style that makes a perfect platform for the vocals ... We have to admit we've passed this album up for years and years, as it seems to be rather ubiquitous in these parts, and boy were we mistaken! Side one is mostly instrumental, and sounds like a lost Dexter Wansel album, with sophisticated, spacey post-fusion arrangements and a quasi-futuristic ... LP, Vinyl record album

Heavenly mystical soul from Rotary Connection! If you know the group, you know the deal already: Minnie Riperton sings vocals on a number of cuts, and the great Charles Stepney's producing and arranging, with a super-baroque style that's still light years ahead of most producers in pop!
