Startling work from Denmark's Contemporary Jazz Quintet – a key 60s ensemble with a raw power that put them at the forefront of the European experimental scene of the time! The group has a way of playing with sound and space through their improvised solos – very "new thing" in execution, with echoes of the work of the New York Contemporary Five, and some of the other groups of the American scene of the time. The group features Hugh Steinmetz on trumpet, Franz Beckerlee on alto, Steffen Andersen on bass, and Bo Thrige Andersen on drums – plus the amazing addition of Niels Harrit on "saw" – an actual saw that's played as a tuned instrument, and which delivers these incredible sounds as the recording moves on. The work's divided up into 5 segments, each differently-numbered "actions". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
