Really lovely work from Miriam Aida -- a set of contemporary recordings, but with Brazilian roots that go decades deep! Miriam has this light vocal approach that's really wonderful -- soft, but never too airy to lose its soul -- and mixed here with very well-selected instrumentation that's often heaviest on acoustic percussion elements, then slightly shaded in with bits of guitar -- an approach that keeps things very spare at times, leaving Aida's vocals to carry most of the record themselves. There's a warmth here that reminds us of some of our favorite Joyce recordings from years back -- a similar sense of rhythm and flow, even when things are mellow!
