One of Cugie's more popular albums – and a record that has him re-recording older hits for the hi-fi generation. There's not that much hi and fi on the record, as the groove's pretty much in the older style – but the newer recordings were done in a stereo setting, which makes for a bit better sound than some of the originals. Titles include "Tico Tico", "Jalousie", "Dengoza", "Guitara Romana", "Miami Beach Rhumba", "Brazil", "Besame Mucho", and "Orchids In The Moonlight". (6 eye stereo pressing, with deep groove. Cover has some ring & edge wear.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Best Of Cugat
Mercury, 1961. Very Good+ Gatefold
We're not sure that this was actually a "greatest hits" because it's hard to find these tracks turning up elsewhere but it's a nice batch of lighthearted Latin dance tracks in any case. Tracks include "Mama Inez", "Tea For Two", "Taboo", "Sway", ... LP, Vinyl record album

King Plays Some Aces
RCA, 1958. Very Good-
A set recorded by RCA in 1958 – featuring a few new numbers, plus a number of classics, redone by Cugie in a nice jazzy style that we like better than his earlier work! Sid Ramin did a few arrangements for the record – and titles include "Mambo No 5", "Baia", "G ... LP, Vinyl record album

All Strung Out
Columbia, Late 60s. Very Good-
Killer Latin soul from Mongo! At some level, it might be hard to keep track of his late 60s sides for Columbia – but all you have to know is that they're all great, filled with pop Latin soul grooves that pushed way past his contemporaries, dancing around the conga with tight arrangements by ... Wonderful 70s Latin soul from the legendary Bay Area combo that included Jorge Santana, Luis Gasca, and Coke Escovedo! A stunning bit of Latin funk from Motown – the only album of its type we've ever seen on the label, a real groover that kicks it up with the best of the early 70s Chicano scene! Cuban Carnival
RCA, 1956. Very Good-
One of Tito Puente's finest albums for RCA, with a tight hard bunch of cuts that have a Cuban big band sound, and a lot more drive to them than some of Tito's other work for the label. Ray Bryant wrote the great track "Cuban Fantasy", and Tito contributed most of the other tunes on the ... LP, Vinyl record album
