CD (Item 389751) Spotlite (UK), 1983 — Condition: New Copy

A really nice little record by British alto player Peter King – a great talent who's hardly ever gotten his due outside the UK! The album's got King in an easy-going quartet – blowing strongly in the lead with leaping, soaring lines that never tire for energy and imagination – almost a surprise for such an unassuming-looking album like this! There's a soulfulness here that you wouldn't expect for the time and the place, and King's rich style of work on the alto here is almost similar to inroads that Bobby Watson would take on the instrument in America during the same time – and King gets some great help on rhythm from John Horler on piano, Dave Green on bass, and Spike Wells on drums. Titles include "Evans' Song", "Solitaire", "Warm Breeze", "Reverse Thrust", and "3/4 Peace".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
