A whole new sound for The Stylistics – one that has the group working here with Maurice Starr in a sweet 80s street soul style! The approach is a surprisingly good one – and given that Starr's backings are always on the lighter side of the spectrum, the group's trademark harmonies are never dominated too much by the beats and the basslines! In a way, hearing Starr work with The Stylistics here, we can almost hear the link he made between older group soul modes and some of the younger acts he pushed to fame in the 80s – but that's not to say that this set is a pop record at all – because The Stylistics keep things real throughout with a great old school approach to their vocals. CD features a whopping 18 tracks in all – material from the albums A Special Style and Some Things Never Change – with titles that include "Love Is Serious", "Special", "Let's Go Rockin", "O Sha Ma", "Sad Girl", "Some Things Never Change", "Give A Little Love", "Don't Change", "The Girl In Yellow", "Hungry", and "Only From The Heart". Also features a sweet version of "Give A Little Love" – with just piano and vocal!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A tighter sound than before for The Bar-Kays – that lean approach to funky grooves that some of their contemporaries were hitting as the 80s moved on – yet still served up here by the full ensemble with a relatively fresh feel overall. Amidst the beats and keyboards, there's still lots ... CD

An overlooked groover from Gloria Gaynor – warm, wonderful, and filled with some great Philly touches! Sure, the record's got a Park Avenue address, but it's also got some great arrangements from Norman Harris, Jack Faith, and Ron Kersey – all of whom bring in a bit more warmth than on ... CD

The image on the cover is a great summation of the Aurra magic – a sweet blend of male and female vocals with plenty of soul – woven together in ways that are quite different from more cliched duet modes of earlier years! The grooves are at the center of the record – set out ... CD
