CD (Item 475150) Polskie Nagrania (Poland), Late 60s/1970s/Early 80s — Condition: New Copy

Latin grooves from a very unusual source – a wonderfully mad mix of rhythms from the Polish scene of the Cold War years, and some of the grooviest music you could ever hope to find on the eastern side of the Iron Curtain! Much of this work follows in a similar mode to some of the best MPS uses of Latin and Brazilian elements – mixing inspiration from the other side of the Atlantic with some of the freer, breezier jazz styles going down in Europe during the 70s – often using both acoustic and electric instrumentation to carry off the grooves, with really wonderful results! There's a bit of vocals on the set, but the instrumentation takes center stage at most times – and if we had to reach for a comparison, we might say that some of this stuff has the same appeal as the early material on the Glucklich compilations from Compost, but with a funkier feel overall. Instrumentation includes lots of heavy percussion, funky flutes, warm keyboards, and more – and titles include "Breakfast At Midnight" by Piotr Figiel, "Scrambled Eggs" by Bemibem, "Epidemic Euphory" by Klan, "Safari Raid" by Jan Ptasy Wroblewski, "With Salt & Pepper" by Complot Of Six, "Gacek" by Jerzy Milian, "Lonesome Sailor" by Test, "Why Not Samba" by Wojciech Karolak, "First Not Last" by Young Power, "In Simplest Gestures" by Crash I Grazyna Lobaszewska, and "All Together" by Novi Singers.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
