Finally – a full length album from I Ced, an artist we've been loving for his work on singles and with other singers for the past few years – really blowing our mind with this initial extended set! The record's got all the cosmic soul we've come to expect from Ced's production – a really personal, almost poetic approach to the style – and one that's nicely far from some of the overdone cliches that have been bogging things down for other artists. And this time around, I Ced also handles some of the best vocals himself – really grabbing us with his singing, and working with other vocals from Sophia Vasquez, who brings in just the right sort of sweetness to the record. The album's easily the greatest thing to come so far from the Record Breakin label – and it gets our bet for one of the best underground soul records of the past few years! Titles include "Love Is The Conqueror", "Flyin Under Water", "Fly", "All In My Mind", "Give It Effect", "She's Gone", and "Don't Lay Low".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Wonderful work from Gregory Porter – easily one of the best new jazz singers to emerge in the past decade or so, and one whose approach is soulful enough to rival the greats of the 70s! There's echoes here of Bill Withers, Gil Scott-Heron, and Al Jarreau – and like all those artists, ... CD
