CD (Item 452259) Piccadilly/RPM (UK), Mid 60s — Condition: New Copy

Mod groovers from the great Billie Davis – a lesser-known British pop singer from the mid 60s – but one we'd rank right up there with Sandie Shaw, Dusty Springfield, or any other of her contemporaries! The tunes here are all from Billie's years on the Picadilly and Columbia labels – making the package a great complement to the Decca Years set issues by Universal – and here, Davis hits a groove that's similar to American Brill Building pop of the period, but which has some great British touches that keep the tunes plenty darn lively – that little "punch" that you'd find in Petula Clark's work, and a creeping interest in US soul, especially as the years move on! The collection features 28 tracks in all – including a fair number of duets recorded with Keith Powell, a few previously unissued numbers, and even some live tracks! Titles include "Heart & Soul", "No Other Baby", "Hands Off", "Whatcha Gonna Do", "Say Nothin Don't Tell", "That Boy John", "It's So Funny I Could Cry", "Swingin Tight", "Every Day", "Just Walk In My Shoes", and "Tastes Sour Don't It".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
