LP (Item 62935) Whatmusic (UK), Late 60s — Condition: New Copy

A mad batch of tunes that are a perfect example of the "pilantragem" (piracy) movement in Brazil at the end of the 60s! Similar to some of the pluralistic cultural influences running through Tropicalia, pilantragem borrows music from a world of different sources – working in a style that offers a pastiche of many different strands, many ideas, all filtered into one groovy sound! The core of the group on this set is a jazz one – with players that include Paulo Moura on saxes, Pascoal Meirelles on drums, and Wagner Tiso on piano – but the bouncing groove of the set is way more than jazz, and is in the best tradition of the mad Brazilian mix-up music we love so much. Titles include "El Relicario", "O Ebrio", "Ana Cristina", and "Barril De Chopp".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
