Regeneration Report
CD (Item 608841) Context/Sol Re Sol, 1981 — Condition: New Copy
Funky, jazzy, and mighty righteous grooves from the Sedition Ensemble – a group who've got a great early 80s New York sense of criss-crossing styles! The messages are as political as you'd expect from the group's name – and they're delivered in a mix of sung and spoken passages by Crystal Joy, Robbie McCauley, and Valois Mickens – all names we don't know at all from other work, but who really give this set a strong sense of personality – and a good dose of soul, too! The vibe is somewhere in the spirit of some of Jayne Cortez' recordings, or maybe later work by Sarah Webster Fabio – but the music is an equal part of the record, too – given that the group features Melvin Gibbs on bass, and Bern Nix on guitar – plus trumpet from Ben Bierman, alto from Richard Fairfax, and tenor from Ed Montgomery. Titles include "Regeneration Report", "Digression On Triangles", "Inside/Outside", "Tax", "Prison Poem", and "Random Collisions". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
