LP (Item 462015) Verve/Sundazed, 1965 — Condition: New Copy

A stone killer from funky guitarist Grant Green – his one non-Blue Note session as a leader in the 60s, and a rare cooker that really breaks the format from his other work! The unique session has Green working in a group that features Larry Young on organ and Harold Vick on tenor – making for a mix of modern and soul jazz that creates a uniquely smoking groove. Plus, the rest of the combo features drummer Ben Dixon riffing away – hitting the kind of free-swinging lines he was doing with John Patton over at Blue Note – plus the added attraction of the legendary Candido on congas and bongas, which brings a fuller groove to some of the tunes! The set features a great version of "Cantaloupe Woman", plus the cuts "Daddy Grapes", "The Selma March", and "Willow Weep For Me". (Beautiful reissue – with very high quality vinyl, and a gatefold cover!)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
