Julie Is Her Name Vol 2

LP, Vinyl record album

A lesser-known follow-up to Julie London's classic Julie Is Her Name album – one that actually features Julie wearing clothes on the cover, but which still comes across with a very sexy sound! The approach here is similar to the first set – with Howard Roberts backing up Julie's vocals, in a style that's quite similar to that used by Barney Kessel the first time around. Red Mitchell's bass is really the only other instrumentation – and the spareness of the set is stunning – with a nakedness that gets past even Julie's heavy turtleneck on the cover! Titles include "If I'm Lucky", "Little White Lies", "Hot Toddy", "Blue Moon", "Goody Goody", and "Spring Is Here". (Black label pressing with deep groove.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Lonely Girl
Liberty, 1956. Very Good
Looking like she does on the cover, it's hard to imagine Julie London being a lonely girl – as she's very seductively posed, with that slinky bare shoulders look that no doubt helped many of her early Liberty sides sell so well! But apart from the cheesecake, the record's one of Julie's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Liberty, Late 60s. Very Good+
Sublime 60s work from The Four Freshmen – a record that's very different than their 50s classics, but in a wonderful way! The Freshmen had had a key influence on the sound of sunshine pop in the 60s – a fact that was often noted by Brian Wilson, who'd wanted the Beach Boys to sound ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cool Heat
Liberty, Early 60s. Very Good
An album of straight jazz vocals from Hawaiian singer Ethel Azama – an artist who's perhaps better known for her more exotic Liberty album with Martin Denny, but who's working here in a much straighter mode with backings from the great Marty Paich! Paich is at the height of his powers here ... LP, Vinyl record album

Run Wild Run Free
A&M, 1970. Very Good-
One of the last Claudine Longet albums for A&M – and one of the grooviest too! The set's got a bit more going on than some of her previous records – a bit more confidence in the vocals, yet not too much in the rock-styled mode of her later albums on Barnaby. The balance is a ... LP, Vinyl record album

What can we say? We're unabashed Dean Martin fans – and this album is a perfect example of why!
