CD (Item 599205) Gema/Combo, 1968 — Condition: New Copy

Maybe not as all-out psychedelic as you'd expect from the title and cover – but nonetheless, a really memorable late 60s album from El Gran Combo! The set's got the group hitting some of their Latin Soul modes at times – a clear direction for their psychedelic impulses – changing the rhythms with a bit more of a Spanish Harlem swing, especially on some of the midtempo numbers, which brood along nicely on the basslines! The combo's twin saxes are perfect for this setting – and given the soul that Andy Montanez and Pellin Rodriguez bring to their vocals, they're obviously a big help too. Titles include "El Jibarito", "Que Es Lo Tuyo", "Gran Combo Jala Jala", "Sin Tu Querer", "Mozambique", "Es Mi Tierra", and "El Pollo Frizao".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
