A rare gem from the Clarke Boland Big Band – and one of the group's few vocal sessions ever! The album's a really unique one – recorded in the UK in 1970, and featuring singer Carmen McCrae joining the group for a fresh and unusual batch of tracks – most of them originals written for the session! The CBBB is in fine fine form throughout – hard-swinging with an impossibly tight sound, and featuring solo work by Tony Coe, Sahib Shihab, and Billy Mitchell. But even more surprising is Carmen – really opening up on the record, thanks to the fresh, new material – and hitting dark moods that perfectly fit the November Girl title of the session! Titles include "Just Give Me Time", "A Handful Of Soul", "Dear Death", "My Kinda World", and "November Girl". (It's hard to tell from the image, but Rearward packaged it all in a really nice case with a glossy silver metalic finish!)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

One of the few small group recordings ever cut by pianist Francy Boland – and a set that cooks every bit as much as his work with the larger Clarke Boland Big Band on MPS! The reason for the cooking is clear – Francy's got key rhythmic help from group members Jimmy Woode on bass and ... CD

Pretty groovy work from Jonathan Scales – a steel drum player by trade, but one who works here in a mode that's light years from any basic use of the instrument! The core approach is jazz, but the music is also inflected by lots of little twists and turns – a pastiche of styles and ... CD

An obscure bit of LA pop from the early 70s – featuring the breathy Paige Claire, a heavenly vocalist with a sound like a porn star! The album's got arrangements by Al Capps and Harry Betts, and kind of an early 70s easy sound to it that works wonderfully with Paige's voice. She's a better ... CD
