R&B/jazz organ instrumentals, played by one of the less-remembered name from the generation that included Bill Doggett and Wild Bill Davis. The set's a mix of hard wailers and standards, with a good raw groove in keeping with a King records sound. Tracks include "Joy Ride", "The House Rocker", "Sylvia's Callin", "Dumplin's", and "Love Mood". (Cover has some wear, light stains on the back, and a partially split top seam and spine.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Epic, Late 30s. Very Good+ Gatefold
An excellent collection of early work recorded under Johnny Hodges' name in the early years – sessions from 1938 and 1939 that were originally issued on 78s, but presented here in a classic Columbia LP! The tracks are a great assortment of small group numbers that focus on Hodges' tremendous ... LP, Vinyl record album

Duke's Men – Original 1936 to 1939 Recordings
Epic, Late 30s. Very Good+ Gatefold
An excellent album that features late 30s recordings by some of Duke Ellington's most famous sidemen! The groups on most of these are fairly similar – mostly small group sessions from the larger Ellington outfit – pulled out in ways that give a strong focus on the solo talents of the ... Epic, Early 60s. Very Good-
A pretty hip one from a young Dave Grusin – working here as an already-accomplished pianist, in a swinging trio with Milt Hinton on bass and Don Lamond on drums. The basis of the material is the score to the obscure but delightful Broadway show Subways Are For Sleeping – one of the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jazz & Romantic Places
Atlantic, 1955. Very Good-
Jazz in romantic places, but some pretty groovy ones too – a host of global destinations all referenced in the track selection for the set! Dave Pell's tenor is at the lead on most numbers, but the octet's in fine formation too – arranged by Jack Montrose, Marty Paich, Johnny Mandel, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Night Song
Verve, 1968. Very Good
A great title for this one – as the album's got a cool, laidback groove that's very much in a "night song" mode! Arrangements are by Don Sebesky – in that warm and fluid mode he was bringing to some of his best CTI sides at the time – and they push Kenny a bit more than ... LP, Vinyl record album

Up Front, Late 60s. Very Good
A slightly different version of the album Flipped – A lost bit of Stanley Turrentine funky work – recorded between his years at Blue Note and his time at CTI, and nearly lost to the pages of history! Despite the obscurity, though, the album's a great one – done with these short ... LP, Vinyl record album
