New York Live
LP (Item 606545) Cadence, 1981 — Condition: New Copy
The cover may be a bit goofy, but the album's filled with fire throughout – a great document of Jemeel Moondoc's talents at the start of the 80s! The set brings together two different performances, but both by the same group – a rock-solid lineup that features Moondoc on alto, Roy Campbell on trumpet, William Parker on bass, and Rashid Bakr on drums – all coming together with a force and focus that's almost a link between the New York styles of the loft jazz generation and the earlier ESP era! Side one features two beautifully soulful numbers – an offbeat take on "Salt Peanuts" that really opens up the tune, and Campbell's great "Thanks To The Creator". Side two is more open, but filled with rich flavors – including a bit of guest vocalization from Ellen Christi – who really adds some great elements to the side-long "High Rise". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
