AWB's first for Atlantic – and a nice slice of funk that proves that they can mix it up with the best groups of the 70s! The record's got plenty of sweet electric keyboards over smooth funky basslines – and as the years go by, the band's white boy vocals don't sound nearly as bad as we remember them. And besides, when they play their instruments so nicely – how can you hold the singing against them? Includes the killer classic "Pick Up The Pieces", sampled more times than we can remember – plus "You Got It", "Just Wanna Love You Tonight", "Person To Person", and a nice remake of the Isley Brothers' "Work To Do".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Aretha's Gold
Atlantic, 1969. Very Good+
Hard to believe that in a few short years at Atlantic, Aretha Franklin could come up with a full LP's worth of material to be deemed "gold" for this 1969 compilation – but that's definitely the case, as if these tunes didn't all make gold record status at the time, they're certainly ... Hung Up On You
Pride, 1973. Near Mint-
Nice one! Jerry Butler's brother Billy recorded for more labels than you'd expect over the years – but this is only one of three full LPs that he ever cut. The album's a stellar batch of harmony soul tracks – as perfectly for the early 70s harmony scene as Billy's late 60s work on ... LP, Vinyl record album
Sylvers
Pride, 1972. Good+
The first album by The Sylvers – a hard soulful band made up of youngsters from LA, but who had a lot more going on than some of the other kiddie-soul bands of the early 70s! The group's a sextet at this point, with four male voices and two female ones – coming across as a sweet blend ... LP, Vinyl record album
