African Rhythms – African Cookbook
LP (Item 53851) Polydor/Comet (France), 1969 — Condition: New Copy
A landmark session from the end of the 60s – one that features Randy Weston delivering on all the African promise of his earlier work! The album was recorded in Paris – that hotbed of post-colonial culture in the post-68 days – one of the few places where Weston could really open up, and create the kind of music he'd been talking about for most of the decade. The group on the set is Weston's African Rhythms ensemble – an unique combo that featured Art Taylor on the drum kit, plus additional percussion from Niles Weston and Reebop Kwaku Baah. The great Henri Texier sounds fantastic on bass – grooving with a deeply rhythmic pulse – creating soulful lines for Weston to groove away with. Tracks include the extended groover "African Cookbook", plus the cuts "A Night In Medina", "Afro Black", "Con Alma", and "Jajouka". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
