Jazz Pa Ryska – Russian Folk Songs (with bonus tracks)
CD (Item 588624) Megafon/Heptagon (Sweden), 1967 — Condition: New Copy
One of the most beautiful efforts ever recorded by Swedish pianist Jan Johansson – and our favorite in his jazz-meets-folklore project! The set's comprised of short Russian melodies from folklore – expanded beautifully by a trio that includes Jan on piano, Georg Riedel on bass, and Egil Johansen on drums – with some key added horns at points from Lennart Aberg on tenor, Arne Domnerus on clarinet, and Bo Broberg on trumpet! The tunes are a bit richer and more complex than other recordings of this nature – and really full of feeling, partly due to their original sense of spirit, and partly due to the sensitive way they're handled by the group. Titles include "Bandura", "Langs Floden", "Strova Omkring", "Stepp Min Stepp", and "Det Gar En Kosack". CD also features 6 bonus tracks from the original sessions – and the acts as a CD-Rom with all the material from the sessions on MP3 files! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
