All material here was recorded on location in Belize by the London-based company – done with a rootsy brilliance that takes us back to vintage ethnographic recordings, but with sound quality that's way way better – so that you really get all the subtle sounds of the drums and percussion! Instrumentation is incredibly varied – and includes tortoise and conch shells – yet there's a unified groove that makes the larger ensembles come together wonderfully – all with a deeply organic quality that's almost the roots of contemporary grooves you'd hear from folks like Osunlade or Jephte Guillaume! Some numbers have vocals – and performers include Bato Drum Group, Uwarani, Dugu Ensemble, and Gilla & The Wageira Le Drummers.
