Bassy funk from Shotgun – on their third album at this point, and still very much in the tight groove that gave them their start! The format's nothing fancy, but one of the better mainstream takes on funk at the time – a groove that's got the complicated rhythm patterns that lets the group show off their chops – yet which also hits the straight ahead grooving style done by Cameo and Confunkshun. Titles are all longish, and include "Skate", "Midnight Breakdown", "Don't You Wanna Make Love", "Burnin Passion", "Special Lady", and "Stone Women". (Cover has some ring & edge wear.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Band AKA
PPL/MCA, 1982. Very Good
The first album from this early 80s ensemble funk group – a full-on combo that comes on with the heavy-bass approach of the time, and who seem to have a strong suit in longer tracks that step along the dancefloor in a midtempo groove. A bit one for Patti Labelle in the 80s – a set that crossed over big at the time, but which still has the lady in very soulful territory! Red Black & Green
Polydor, 1973. Near Mint-
Seminal early funk work from Roy Ayers! The record catches him at that perfect point when he was turning from a straight jazz player into a sinister force in 70s funk – and the group on the session includes super-hip soul jazz giants like Charles Tolliver, Sonny Fortune, and Harry Whitaker, ... Passionate Breezes
Capitol, 1978. Very Good+
A smoking solo debut from Chicago's Charles Jackson – a hell of a great singer, songwriter, and producer – who'd already had great fame in the Independents, and was working hard at Capitol records with Marvin Yancey to help shape the early years of Natalie Cole!
