Songs For You (Song For You/Parfait)
CD (Item 615967) Milestone, 1978/1980 — Condition: New Copy
Two late 70s albums from Ron Carter – both very nice! Song For You is a nice standout – with a nicely laidback vibe that mixes light jazz funk with a bit of strings – kind of a gentle, mellow approach that's still got plenty of soul – almost in the way that you might hear on some of the more easygoing Kudu/CTI albums of the time – but without all of the fanfare. Kenny Barron turns in some great piano backing – just right for the mood – and the album also features a bit of percussion from Ralph MacDonald, drums from Jack DeJohnette, and some guitar from Jay Berliner. Titles include "Good Time", "NO Blues", "El Ojo De Dios", and "Song For You". Parfait is a trio date that gets a bit back to basics – with Ron on piccolo bass, an instrument he uses as a very strong solo element, right up front in the mix – with support from a trio that features Ted Lo on piano, Leon Maleson on bass, and Wilby Fletcher on drums. Titles include the long "Blues For DP", plus "Receipt Please", "New Waltz", "Parfait", and "Round Midnight". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
