Flora Purim — Open Your Eyes You Can Fly ... CD 6.99

A classic batch of Bay Area Brazilian grooves – recorded in the sweet breezy electric style of the Fantasy studios, and featuring the vocals of the lovely Flora Purim in the lead! The session's got a great mix of Brazilian and American fusion players – including Airto (of course!), Ron Carter, George Duke, Egberto Gismonti, Alphonso Johnson, Robertinho Silva, Hermeto Pascoal, and Ndugu Leon Chancler. Pascoal's reed work is a very nice treat, especially over the warm keyboards of George Duke. Purim's voice is as wonderful as ever, and the album's got lots of nice numbers, like "Ina's Song", "Andei (I Walked)", "Time's Lie", and "Open Your Eyes You Can Fly". (Cover has a cut corner and a small bit of peeling in a ringwear pattern.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Verve, 1966. Very Good+
An album that not only broke the bossa big in the US – but a set that also really helped transform the sound of the organ in jazz! Not only is the record a key meeting of bossa rhythms and jazz organ – transplanted hugely to the US after a big initial Wanderley run in 60s Brazil – ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polygram (Brazil), 1970s/Early 80s. Very Good
A very cool 12 track sampler of the best work by Brazilian soul singer Tim Maia! If you know other Brazilian singers, expect to be surprised, because Maia's style has a lot of US soul influences in it, especially as he moves more into his modern soul work of the early 80s. The sound is certainly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tabu, 1979. Very Good+
An incredible batch of Brazilian fusion – cut by keyboardist Manfredo Fest, and one of the few records he ever waxed in the US during the 70s! The record mixes Fest's soaring Brazilian groove with a tight soulful set of arrangements by Jerry Peters – a bit club-oriented, with a similar ... LP, Vinyl record album

ECM, 1981. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
One of Gismonti's straighter jazz albums, but one that's still filled with a lot of fantastically conceived turns and changes, in the manner of his best compositions. This is a 2LP set, with 1 album of performances by a quartet that includes Mauro Senise on reeds and Zeca Assumpacao on bass. The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Who can ever figure this chick out? Mrs Miller was a strange denizen of the bottom level of the music industry food chain – and her stock-in-trade was performing 60s pop tunes with a shrill fuddy-duddy style that was instantly recognizable, and forever annoying!
