Heaven On Earth

LP (Item 502797) Blue Note, 1969 -- Condition: New Copy

Brilliant late Blue Note material from Larry Young! Heaven On Earth is actually Young's last official release for Blue Note at the time, and it's a return to more straight-ahead, nicely soulful jazz organ playing after his freer set from the year before. Despite that fact, though, the set's got its darker moments, especially since Byard Lancaster's on alto and Herbert Morgan (who we only know from the Young Blue Note sessions) is on tenor, with George Benson on guitar and Edward Gladden on the kit. Nice modal organ tracks, with a good groove, and excellent solos -- a nice cap to the 60s era for Larry Young! Young's wife sings on a version of "My Funny Valentine", and other tracks include "The Infant", "Call Me", "The Cradle", and "The Hereafter".  © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc.
