Reunion
CD (Item 479510) Spotlite (UK), 2001 — Condition: New Copy
A great reunion between these legendary British jazz talents – one that shows they've lost none of their creativity over the years! The album features two different quintet sessions – one with Don Rendell in the lead on saxes (clarinet, soprano sax, and tenor), alongside Michael Garrick on piano and Mark Bassey on trombone – the other with Rendell on flute, alto, and tenor, with Ian Carr on trumpet and flugelhorn, and the great Robin Jones on drums. The material is relatively laidback, but there's still plenty of sharp edges – that modern approach to hardbop that Rendell and Carr brought to British jazz at the start of the 60s – played here with a bit more restraint, but a sound that's still quite spirited overall. Titles include "Linger With Lester", "Pause & Effect", "Bernie's Tune", "Penthouse Serenade", "How Deep Is The Ocean", "Smoke Screen", "Afterthought", and "Struttin With Some Barbecue". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
