Gilberto Gil continues his exploration of Caribbean-styled rhythms here – working in a sunny space that's a bit different from his earlier work, especially some of his more electric or intimate sets of a decade ago. The style here is one that suits Gil's aging vocals well – as his presentation of the lyrics is a nice contrast to some of the brighter sounds from the instrumentation – music that's possibly a bit sweeter and sunnier overall, leaving Gilberto in a position to provide the real depth and soul of the record. Production is by Liminha, and titles include "Os Pais", "Outros Viram", "Cano", "Maquina De Ritmo", "O Oco Do Mundo", "Nao Grude Nao", "Formosa", "Olho Magico", and "Guiexa No Tatame". Although we always get loads of requests for his stuff, the best early work of Gilberto Gil is always darn tough to find, even on CD. A brilliant early moment for the young Gilberto Gil – a set recorded right before his jump into the Tropicalia movement, but with a sound that's already pretty darn unique! The style here has Gilberto singing upfront and playing acoustic guitar – in a mode that's certainly rooted in ... CD

One of the freshest albums we've heard in years from Gilberto Gil – a set that seems to shake off some of the misdirections of recent records, and really get back the sharper style of his roots – while still also heading off into a new mode as well! There's a definite forro ... CD

Was there ever anyone groovier than these guys? We don't think so – as Sergio had it all: 2 female singers in the lead, great bossa nova backing, and production on his records that couched the grooves in the pillowy-soft pop style of the A&M studios! This 17 track package isn't much ... CD

A late 80s album that was an attempt (one of many) to bring Caetano's wicked work to a larger audience. In this instance, Caetano is backed and produced by some New York hipsters – all with a commitment to music, and all with names that would help the album sell well in the American hipster ... CD
