One of the coolest combos so far on the mighty Ricky Tick Records – a trio arranged and produced by Teddy Rok, and one with a cracklingly lean approach to rhythm! Instrumentation is heavy on vibes, percussion, and keyboards – and the tunes have a style that's a bit funkier than other work on Ricky Tick – still with plenty of influences from classic jazz of the 60s and 70s, but put together with a bit more production, and a slightly more cut-up feel! There's plenty of breaks throughout – and in a way, the whole thing almost feels like Madlib's trip into the Blue Note archives a few years back – classic-styled enough to preserve the warmth and soul of the original inspirations, but with a leaner groove that has plenty of contemporary appeal.
