LP (Item 474606) RCA/Deja Vu (Italy), 1975 — Condition: New Copy

One of the greatest albums ever from trumpeter Dusko Goykovich – a session that follows strongly in his Swinging Macedonia session from a decade before – and which, like that one, mixes up jazz with a range of Eastern European influences! The tracks are all originals by Goykovich, played by a quintet that's heavy on modal rhythms and warmly rolling grooves – a style that would be right at home on the MPS label, but which has gotten very little exposure over the years, thanks to the rarity of this Italian-only release! Dusko plays trumpet, and other instrumentation includes tenor and soprano sax by Ben Thompson, piano by Vince Benedetti, bass by Joe Nay, and drums by Andy Scherrer. The whole thing's a work of incredible depth and beauty, and is definitely one of the records to seek out if you've heard Goykovich's name over the years, but haven't yet latched onto his genius! Titles include "Kosmet", "East Of Montenegro", "Flying Rome", "Got No Money", and "Slavic Mood". (Really amazing reissue – with a very heavy cover and high-quality vinyl!)  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
