The title's no lie – as you can really hear the sound of the piano trio transforming over the course of the record – moving from more standard 60s modes into some incredible imaginative styles for the 70s! Pianist Masahiko Satoh is almost always great – but here, he seems to hit an extra-special sort of vibe – a way of really reaching out with his work on piano, yet never going too far outside, either – a balance that really keeps things swinging, even when the sound is very fresh and striking – and plenty of help also comes from trio members Yasuo Arakawa on bass and Masahiko Togashi on drums and percussion.
