Soul Makossa (LP sleeve edition)
CD (Item 580043) Dimsa (Mexico), 1973 — Condition: New Copy
A damn funky little album – as you might expect from the Manu Dibango reference in the title! The set takes off with Tony Quirazco's cool cover of "Soul Makossa" – done with the same sinister groove as the original, but some really fresh inflections – a perfect gateway for the album's wonderful mix of Latin funk numbers, served up with some really hip twists! Instrumentation is often heavy on percussion – and mixes the expected early 70s funk with some late 60s mod touches at points too – a nice link to Tony's other work, in a way that fleshes the album out wonderfully! Titles include "Soul Makossa", "Makossa En Acapulco", "Mi Loco", "Sesion Verde", "Lily", "Happiness", and "Makossa De Tokio".
