A brilliant EP from the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble – who in just a few short years have honed their spiritual jazz funk roots and more tightly punctuated hip hop era brevity into a straight up masterful vibe all their own – working on a level that's above and beyond most of their peers! The brass parts both soar in spirit and burst in tight blasts when the duty calls – usually with an undercurrent of raw funk, thanks to the impeccable drumming – but it's never a wild frenzy, all done with a perfectly paced sense of groove. As much as we're jonsing for another full length, something about the EP format really clicks for these guys, allowing them to get in and out with precision – and this is their best yet!
